AcetaFlex is breakable extended release formulation of acetaminophen (paracetamol) developed using Altus unique FLEXITAB drug delivery technology. In human Ph II studies involving over 400 patients undergoing 3rd molar extraction surgery, AcetaFlex was well tolerated and displayed efficacy consistent with up to 12hr of analgesia. The ability to maintain controlled release after breaking an AcetaFlex tablet allows simple dose titration and the reduction in tablet size afforded by this novel feature may assist swallowing for more elderly patients.
Altus is developing TramaFlex as a breakable once-a-day tramadol formulation for the treatment of moderate to moderately severe pain. The formulation, which is alcohol resistant, is designed to be bio-equivalent to leading 24hr products on sale around the world but offer the added benefits of 100mg, 150mg, 200mg and 300mg strengths from just two tablets. Such additional strengths provide greater dosing flexibility for physicians while maintaining the fast onset and sustained analgesia of the intact formulation. Steady blood levels are expected after just two days of dosing.
